SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria: Every year lakhs of aspiring candidates appear in the SSC CGL Examination. Candidates who are willing to appear for the SSC CGL Exam 2024 must be aware of the eligibility criteria. Candidates can only apply online when they fulfill the eligibility criteria of the SSC. SSC CGL Notification 2024 has been released on the 24th June 2024 and the application procedure has also started for the candidates. In this article, we have briefly mentioned the details of SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2024 to provide a better idea to the candidates.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2024

SSC has its own set of criteria that needs to be fulfilled by the candidates to be eligible to apply online for the examination. SSC CGL eligibility criteria are based on three parameters: age, educational qualification, and nationality.

Age limit

The candidate's age needed to be in between 18 and 32 years. Relaxation in age is applicable for the candidates coming under specific categories. The details are as follows:

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  1. a citizen of India, or
  2. a subject of Nepal, or
  3. a subject of Bhutan, or
  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia,of and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Educational Qualification

The educational qualification required for the various post is as follows:

Junior Statistical Officer

  1. Bachelor's Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level;
    Or
    Bachelor's Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.
  2. Statistical Investigator Grade II:
  3. Bachelor's Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects from a recognized University or Institute. The candidates must have studied Statistics as a subject in all three years or all 6 semesters of the graduation course.

All other Posts:

  1. Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
  2. The candidates who have appeared in the final year of their graduation can also apply, however, they must possess an Essential qualification on or before the cut-off date

Let's go through the SSC CGL Physical standards for various posts for men and women :

Physical standards for the post of Inspector (Central Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer), Inspector & Sub-Inspector in CBN

Physical standards for the post of Inspector (Central Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer), Inspector & Sub-Inspector in CBN for male and female candidates are as follows :

Male Candidates

  • Physical Standards:
  1. Height - 157.5 cm (Relaxable by 5cm in the case of Garhwali, Assamese, Gorkhas, and members of Scheduled tribes)
  2. Chest - 81 cm (fully expanded with a minimum expansion of 5cm)
  • Physical Test:

Walking: 1600 meters in 15 minutes. Cycling: 8 Km. in 30 minutes.

Female Candidates:

  • Physical standards (Minimum):
  1. Height - 152 cm
  2. Weight - 48 kg
  3. Height relaxable by 2.5cms and weight relaxable by 2 kgs for Gorkhas, Garhwali, Assamese, and members of Scheduled Tribes
  • Physical Test
  1. Walking: 1 Km. in 20 minutes.
  2. Cycling:  3 Km. in 25 minutes.

NOTE: For the post of Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/ Preventive Officer), persons with disabilities will have to meet the physical standards i.e. height, chest, and weight as prescribed for the relevant post. However, for orthopedically disabled candidates, the following relaxation in Physical Tests is allowed:

  • The test of "Walking" shall not be insisted in the case of OL and OAL categories.
  • The test of "Cycling" shall not be insisted in the case of OA, OL, and OAL categories.

Physical standards for the Post of Sub- Inspector in the Central Bureau of Investigation

Physical standards for the post of Sub-Inspector in the Central Bureau of Investigation :

  • Height
  1. For men – 165 cm
  2. For women – 150 cm
  3. Height relaxable for Hillsmen and Tribals: 5 cm
  • Chest

76 cm with expansion (There shall be no such requirement in case of female candidates)

  • Vision
  1. Eye-sight (with or without glasses)
  2. Distant vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye. Near vision is 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in another eye.

C.  Physical standards for the Post of Sub-Inspector in the National Investigation Agency

Physical standards for the post of Sub- Inspector in the National Investigation Agency is :

  • Height :
  1. For men – 170 cms.
  2. For women – 150 cm.
  3. Height relaxable for Hillsmen and Tribals: 5 cm.
  • Chest :

76 cm with expansion (There shall be no such requirement in case of female candidates)

3. Vision :

  1. Eye-sight (with or without glasses)
  2. Distant vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye. Near vision 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in other eye.

D.  Physical standards for the Post of Sub-Inspector/ Junior Intelligence Officer in Narcotics Control Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs

  • Height
  1. For men – 165 cm.
  2. For women  – 152 cm.

Note: Height relaxable for Hillsmen and Tribal those in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Lahual and Spiti district and Pangi Sub-division of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Union territory of Ladakh, Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Union territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Union Territories of Lakshadweep: 5 cms.

  • Chest :

76 cm (unexpanded) with 5 cms expansion for all candidates (There shall be no such requirement in case of female candidates)

  • Vision :
  1. Eye-sight (with or without glasses)
  2. Distant vision: 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye. Near vision is 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in another eye.

Note: Candidates are advised to make sure before opting for any category of post that they fulfill the requirements for that category. The physical measurements (including vision test) for candidates will be conducted by the concerned Indenting Departments and only those candidates who fulfill the specified physical measurements will be eligible for the respective posts. No request from candidates for allotting to any other service/ category of post will be entertained by the Commission if the nominated candidates fail to meet the physical requirements. Thus, the onus of fulfilling the eligibility criteria will exclusively be on the candidates opting for such posts.
