RBI Grade B Eligibility Criteria 2023 - Age, Education Qualifications

All the candidates must know the RBI Grade B Eligibility before applying for the post. We will look at all factors related to RBI Grade B Eligibility in this article. It will include age limit, age relaxation, the reference date for meeting eligibility, educational qualification, and nationality. RBI Grade B Eligibility Criteria

RBI Grade B Reference Date

The reference date for meeting the RBI Grade B Eligibility is 1st May 2023 as per the 2023 cycle. 

RBI Grade B Age Limit 

The minimum age to apply for the RBI Grade B officer exam is 21 years. You should have completed 21 years of age as of the reference date. Your birth date should not be after 1st May 2002.

The maximum age to apply for the RBI Grade B officer exam is 30 years of age. This means you should not be 30 years of age. As per the RBI Grade B 2023 notification pdf, your birth date should not be prior to 2nd May 1993.

(The candidate should not have been born before 2nd May 1993 and not after 1st May 2002.)

RBI Grade B Category-Wise Age Relaxations

The upper age limit extension for RBI Grade B exam aspirants is mentioned below:

Ex-ServicemenTo the extent of service rendered by them in Armed Forces plus an additional period of 3 years subject to a maximum of 50 years. 
Candidates having work experience in the Reserve Bank of IndiaTo the extent of the number of years of such experience, subject to a maximum of 3 years.
Ex-employees of banking institutions whose services had to be terminated for reasons of economy or because of the bank going into liquidation and personnel retrenched from Government Offices after at least one year's service and currently registered with Employment Exchange5 years
Gen/EWSs in the case of PwBD.10 years
For SC/ST PwBDmaximum of 15 years
For OBC PwBDmaximum of 13 years
For candidates having experience as an officer in a Commercial Bank/Financial Institution in the Public Sector as also prior experience in the Reserve Bank of India, the upper age limit is relaxed to the extent of the number of completed years of such experience subject to a maximum of
three years.

The upper age limit should not exceed 33 years including experience.

Note- For experience, the probationary period will not be reckoned.

Note: 

  • Scheduled Commercial Banks - Commercial Banks included in the second schedule of the RBI Act, 1934. 
  • Public Sector Insurance companies - The companies reckoned by DFS ((i) Life Insurance Corporation of India, (ii) General Insurance Corporation of India, (iii) The New India Assurance Company Limited, (iv) United Insurance Company Limited, (v) The Oriental Insurance Company Limited, (vi) National Insurance Company Limited and (vii) Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited. 
  • All India Financial Institutions - Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), National Housing Bank (NHB), Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID).

RBI Grade B Educational Qualifications

Any candidate who doesn't fulfill RBI Grade B Eligibility can be rejected at any stage of the selection process. So, candidates must make sure to check the below-given table for RBI Grade B Education.

Officers in Grade 'B' (DR) - (General)Graduation in any discipline /Equivalent technical or professional qualification with minimum 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwBD applicants) or PostGraduation in any discipline / Equivalent technical or professional qualification with minimum 55% marks (pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD applicants) in the aggregate of all semesters/years.
Note:
Graduation Level:
Any such course from a recognized University / Institute that is taken after Class XII and is at least of 3 years duration/ candidates possessing professional or technical qualifications which are recognized by the Government as equivalent to professional or technical graduation will be eligible for admission to the examination, subject to obtaining minimum marks prescribed above.
Post-Graduation Level:
Any such course from a recognized University / Institute that is taken after Graduation and is at least of 2 years duration / recognized by the Government as equivalent to professional or technical Post-graduation will be eligible for admission to the examination, subject to obtaining minimum marks prescribed above.
Officers in Grade 'B' (DR) - DEPR

Essential:
a. A Master's Degree in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics /Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course/ Finance, with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters /years from a recognized Indian or Foreign University /Institute; 

OR
b. PGDM/ MBA Finance with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters /years from a recognized Indian or Foreign University/Institute; 

OR
c. Master's Degree in Economics in any of the sub-categories of economics i.e. agricultural/ business/ developmental/ applied, etc., with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters /years from a recognized Indian or Foreign University /Institute.

Note: SC, ST, and PwBD candidates having a second class with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years in Master's Degree examination or equivalent recognized qualifications are eligible to apply.

Desirable: A Doctorate Degree in Economics or research or teaching experience in Economics or publications in standard journals would be considered as an additional qualification.
Candidates having M.Phil. Degree and Doctorate Degree from a recognized Indian/Foreign University/Institute in the specified subjects will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit by 2 years and 4 years respectively.
d. (i) Candidates having a Master's Degree with Research/Teaching experience at a recognized Indian/Foreign University/ Institute will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit to the extent of a number of years of such experience subject to a maximum of three years. For experience, the probationary period will not be reckoned.
(ii) The above age relaxations will not be cumulatively available with age relaxations available to various categories as mentioned above.

Officers in Grade 'B' (DR) - DSIM

Essential:
a. A Master's Degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Mathematical Economics/Econometrics/ Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Kharagpur/ Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years;
OR
b. Master's Degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years and a one-year postgraduate diploma in Statistics or related subjects from an Institute of repute;
OR
c. M. Stat. Degree of Indian Statistical Institute with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate of all semesters/years;
OR
d. Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) jointly offered by ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur, and IIM Calcutta with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years.

 

Note:

For SC, ST and PwBD candidates, the minimum marks required for a Master's Degree as in items (a), (b), (c), and (d) above is 50% or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/ years.
Desirable:

(i) Candidates with a Doctorate in topics related to the above subjects will be given preference. 

(ii) Research or teaching experience and publication in standard journals will be considered an additional qualification.


Note:

(i) Candidates possessing M.Phil. and PhD qualifications in the specified subjects will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit by 2 years and 4 years respectively.

(ii) Candidates with research/teaching experience at a recognized Indian / Foreign University/Institute will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit to the extent of the number of years of such experience subject to a maximum of three years. For experience, the probationary period will not be reckoned. 
(iii) The above age relaxations will not be cumulatively available with age relaxations available to various categories as mentioned above

Nationality

A candidate must be either:-
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. 

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.

A. The RBI Grade B exam is conducted in three stages: Phase I (Prelims), Phase 2 (Mains), and the Interview round.

A. Yes, the RBI Grade B exam was conducted in 2023. RBI Grade B Phase 1 exam was held on 9th July 2023 (General)
and on 16th July 2023 (DEPR, DSIM) and RBI Grade B Phase 2 will be held on the following dates for the following posts:
30th July 2023 (General)
2nd September 2023 (DEPR)
19th August 2023 (DSIM)

Q. Can final year students apply for RBI Grade B exam 2023? +

A. No, the final year students cannot apply for the RBI Grade B exam. You need to complete your graduation and get a degree certificate in order to apply for the RBI Grade B exam. For RBI Grade B 2023, as of the 1st of May 2023, you should hold the minimum education criteria given in the notification.

Q. How many times can I attempt RBI Grade B exam? +

A. If you are a general category candidate, you have 6 attempts, whereas there is no bar on the number of attempts for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates. By 6 attempts, it means you should have taken the RBI Grade B Phase 1 exam 6 times. If you have already taken the RBI Grade B Phase 1 exam 6 times, then you are not eligible to apply.

Q. Is there any negative marking in RBI Grade B exam? +

A. Yes, there is negative marking in Phase 1 of the RBI Grade B exam. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer in RBI Grade B Phase 1.

Q. Does RBI Grade B exam happens every year? +

A. Yes. The RBI Grade B exam happens every year barring a few years. It was conducted in the years 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018. 2019, 2021. RBI Grade B exam was not conducted in the year 2020. The RBI Grade B 2022 notification got out on the 28th March 2022. The RBI Grade B 2023 Detailed Notification was out on 9th May 2023 and the short notice had been released on 26th April 2023.

Q. What is the Application Fee for RBI Grade B 2023 Exam? +

Expected Application fee for the RBI Grade B is as follows:
For GEN/OBC/EWSs - Rs 850 + 18% GST
For SC/ST/PwBD - Rs 100 + 18% GST
For RBI Staff - Nil.
There will be no application fee for the RBI staff.
