TNPSC Group 2 Exam Pattern 2022
The TNPSC Group 2 Examination will be conducted in 3 phases:
- Preliminary
- Mains: This will comprise 2 papers: Paper I and Paper-II.
- Interview
- For Group 2 (Interview Posts): Selection of candidates for vacancies released under Group 2 is done on the basis of the preliminary examination, main examination, and the Interview.
For Group 2 A (Non-Interview Posts): Selection of candidates for vacancies released under Group 2 A will be done on the basis of the marks secured in the written examination.

TNPSC Group 2 Exam Pattern: Preliminary Examination
- The TNPSC Preliminary examination will have to be an objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) test.
- The total number of questions is 200.
- The total marks of the preliminary examination is 300.
- The questions will be in both English and Tamil languages.
- The General Tamil or General English Paper will have 100 Questions.
- The general studies section has 75 questions and 25 questions from the aptitude and mental ability test section.
- The duration of the TNPSC Preliminary Examination is 3 hours (180 minutes).
- No negative marking is applicable.
- The minimum qualifying marks for the Preliminary examination is 90 marks.

TNPSC Group 2 Exam Pattern For Mains Examination
The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Group 2 Mains Examination will have 2 papers:
- Paper-I - 100 Marks - 3 hours (180 minutes)
- Paper-II - 300 Marks - 3 hours (180 minutes)
Both the papers will have different qualifying marks and duration. The TNPSC Group 2 Mains Examination is very important, as the marks obtained by the candidates in this examination, will be considered for the final selection.
- Paper I- Part A will have 2 questions: Tamil to English Translation and English to Tamil Translation.
- In Paper-I, Part B will have 10 questions from Comprehension, Precis Writing, Hints Development, and Essay Writing on ‘Thirukkural' and Letter writing.
- Answer sheets of the candidates who do not obtain the minimum qualifying marks in Paper- I will not be considered for evaluation of Paper-II.
- The minimum mark to qualify for the TNPSC Group 2 examination is 102 in paper 2.
- The minimum marks to qualify for the TNPSC Group 2A examination is 90 in paper 2.
- TNPSC Group 2 examination is bilingual. It will be taken in both English and Tamil languages.
