RRB NTPC Exam Pattern
The recruitment process involves two stages :
- 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)
- 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)
These two stages are followed by the following procedure.
- Typing Skill Test/Computer Based Aptitude Test (as applicable) and
- Document Verification/Medical Examination.

Overview of RRB NTPC CBT Stage I Exam
- The first stage of the exam is a common CBT (Computer Based Test) for all the notified 13 categories of posts- Commercial Apprentice (CA), Traffic Apprentice (TA), Goods Guard, Junior Accountant cum Amanuensis (Typist) (JAA), Senior Clerk cum Typist, Senior and Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Station Master, Senior and Junior Time Keeper and Trains Clerk.
- The question paper for the CBT will be of 90 minutes duration for 100 questions.
- The questions will be from the following questions- General Awareness, Mathematics and General Intelligence and Reasoning
- There will be 1/3rd negative marking for the wrong answers in the CBT exam
The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices.

Note: RRB NTPC 1st Stage CBT is common for all the notified posts. There will be negative marking and 1/3 mark shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
RRB NTPC Exam Pattern for CBT Stage 2 Exam
Candidates passing this will be eligible to appear in CBT Stage 2. Separate 2nd Stage CBT shall be taken for each of the 7th CPC Level i.e. Level 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 with graded difficulty level. All posts falling within the same level of 7th CPC shall have a common 2nd stage CBT. If candidates are eligible for more than one level of 7th CPC posts as per their educational qualifications, they have to give common 1st stage CBT and corresponding 2nd stage CBT for each level of 7th CPC.
The Questions will be of objective type with multiple choices.

Typing Speed / Skill Test
Skill test/type test will be conducted for both CBT qualifying candidates as per the requirement. The typing speed for both Hindi and English languages should be so that candidates applying for the recruitment of RRB NTPC should have a typing speed of 30 words per minute in English and 25 words per minute in Hindi. This will make it difficult for you to be selected in RRB NTPC at a low speed.
Notice for Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) - Special Instructions to the Candidates
RRB on 30 July 2022 has released Special Instructions for the Computer Based Typing Skill Test.

- CBTST is scheduled to be held on 12th August 2022.
- City intimation slip will be live by 3 August 2022.
- The candidates are required to type atleast 300 words in English or 250 words in Hindi. Candidates who have opted for Hindi for typing test must be familiar with the usage of Krutidev or Mangal font.
- The exam session consists of three parts viz. (i) Typing practice for one minute to warm up & familiarize with keyboard. (ii) Break of 30 seconds and (iii) Typing test for 10 minutes which will be taken for evaluation (Transcripts of those candidates who do not type 300 words in English or 250 words in Hindi within the prescribed time will not be evaluated).
- The evaluation of the passage typed by the candidate will be done as follows :
- The mistakes will be classified as full mistakes and half mistakes.
- 5% mistakes of the total words typed may be ignored.
- The total number of mistakes will be calculated as under :
- No. of full mistakes + No. of half mistakes / 2 = Total mistakes
- Number of mistakes - 5% of total number of words typed = Final count of mistakes.
- The typing speed of the candidate will be worked out by the following formula :-
